Cardiff's European silver medallists Rhys Williams (pictured) and Christian Malcolm progressed safely from their first rounds earlier today in Delhi.
Rhys won his 400m hurdles heat in a comfortable 49.81 while Christian did what was necessary, coming second in his 200m heat in 21.14.
Swansea's Dai Greene also made sure of his place in the final, winning his heat in 49.98.
Cardiff's Joe Thomas (pictured) and Gareth Warburton both qualified comfortably for the semi finals of the 800m.
Running in heat three earlier today, Gareth was an automatic qualifier, coming home third in an easy 1:51.64.
Joe ran in heat four, finishing second in 1:50.17.
After well reported trials and tribulations, the Commonwealth Games have got off to a good start and the Welsh team has settled into their accommodation which they describe as excellent - the first gold medal goes to the team management that ensured this.
Cardiff has six athletes in the team and we shall be following their progress with interest and wish them every possible success.
Can Christian Malcolm and Rhys Williams add to their European medals?
And we also wish good luck to former members Brett Morse and Paul Walker as well as to all the Welsh squad.
As the Commonwealth Games come to an end in the heat of Delhi, back home another cross country season will get under way.
The first of this year's Gwent League series will be held in Bridgend in just over a week's time, on Sunday, 10th October.
Cross country is an important part of the athletics season and Cardiff has traditionally done well in the Gwent League, especially in the younger age groups.
Rhys on ice

Before (hopefully) jetting off tomorrow to Wales Commonwealth Games holding camp in Doha, European silver medallist Rhys Williams took time out to relax at the Nottingham Panthers v Coventry Blaze ice hockey match at the Panthers Lair in Nottingham.
Cardiff AAC picked up eight of the top awards presented at the Welsh Athletics annual dinner held last night, 18th September, at Cardiff's Angel Hotel.
The club itself was Welsh Club of the Year following the great successes of its teams and three distinguished former members were inducted into the Welsh Athletics Hall of Fame. Cardiff will now be nominated to UK Athletics for their Club of the Year award.

The club's annual presentation of awards evening was held last Sunday, 12th September, and more than 150 athletes, parents and friends were able to celebrate one of Cardiff's most successful seasons for many years.
Presenting the awards were special guests Rhys Williams, James Thie, Emma Peters, Leila James and John Penny, Welsh Athletics President.
On a perfect day in Cardiff's city centre this morning, 12 September, just under 3000 runners set off for the 25th running of the HSBC Cardiff 10k road race.
Cardiff's Michael Johnson (pictured after receiving his winner's medal from Welsh Athletics President John Penny) clinched his second Welsh title in a month, finishing in a personal best time for the 10k distance of 29:50.
The club's 2010 annual presentation evening and disco will be held on Sunday next 12 September from 6.30 to 10.00pm.
This annual event is a marvellous opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the past season both for the teams and the individuals who have performed well.
Cardiff's in-form Michael Johnson will be chasing his second Welsh road title on Sunday 12th September in the Cardiff 10k which doubles as the Welsh Championship.
Mike (pictured in last year's race wearing No. 0003 with team mate Tom Marshall wearing 0005) took the 5k title in Swansea on 22nd August when he also led Cardiff to the team title.
